ORIENTATION: Belle's only romantic interactions have been with men so it is safe to assume that she is straight due to the lack of evidence of bisexuality. However, if forced into a situation with someone of the same sex due to the setting, she won't shy away from relations with a woman because she is the type of person to understand that love and romance are layered things and complex issues and that sex does not always equal love or romance.

SUITABILITY: Belle is a resourceful woman and would more than understand that not every situation she is in is a situation she can rely on others to get her out of. She is a person who uses her wits and bravery to push herself through any trial or tribulation. She is someone who would be too stubborn to succumb to death, if it meant losing her memories of Rumplestiltskin or her loved ones in Storybrooke. In the same vein, she might also bee stubborn at first to reconcile the thought of being intimate with anyone not her true love. Curses would not be accepted with ease, but she would understand the effects of one give her little choice in the matter.
As for living on her own, Belle is more than capable of finding employment, be it as a librarian, a housekeeper, or caretaker. She developed the latter two skillsets during her long tenure as the Dark One's maid and the first comes from her love of books. She is skilled in cooking, cleaning, and sewing. While others in her canon have skills in swordplay and magic, she lacks those things and finds herself not in need of them to get by because of it.
FIT: As stated above, Belle is the type to get by on her wits. While sex with a stranger would not come easily to her in the beginning, she would more than apply herself if the alternative was losing her memories of Rumplestiltskin. She's been there, done that (thanks Regina), and doesn't plan to go through something like that again. Belle would be a fit in the setting specifically because of her pure-of-heart nature and goodness and willingness to help those in need. That could easily translate into helping others stay alive to her mutual benefit.
